Cosmetic Facial Acupuncture

Launching new treatment from June.

What is cosmetic Facial Acupuncture?

A treatment which uses acupuncture needles to rejuvenate the skin by aiming to reduce fine lines and wrinkles.  It can also focus on patients that have acne, rosacea, other skin complaints or saggy skin.

How does it work?

Generally, Acupuncture needles are placed according to a diagnosis of what the patients’ symptoms are and this is from a through consultation, tongue, face diagnosis and pulse taking.  They help move any blockages of Qi, dampness or blood stagnation throughout the acupuncture channels.  All you need to know is that the needles are helping the patient’s body to re set. They can be placed anywhere on the body, front, back, arms, legs, feet or face, scalp etc.  Eventually the diagnosis will change, the patient will feel better and the needles have done their job.   With Facial Acupuncture the focus is on the face but there are some needles that go elsewhere to allow equal distribution.  Needles are inserted to the diagnosis and also where attention is needed.

Cosmetic Facial Acupuncture

As an acupuncturist I was drawn to learning this treatment due to the impact of needles on the face and what it can do just not to the skin but the rest of the body.  With Chinese medicine when we needle the body, we are aiming to help re balance and help a condition which the patient has arrived with.  The same thing applies to facial acupuncture.   The aim to make an improvement for the patient naturally rather than fixing with a cosmetic procedure.

The Treatment

As mentioned above a through consultation will determine where needles are placed. Prior to the treatment you may have derma rolling, cupping or Gua Sha.  This is a great way to warm up the skin area for treatment.  Although I must say that the cups are not suctioned onto the skin and left there, as this would leave a mark!  They glide along the skin, which is known as sliding cupping. Then once this is done needles are inserted and retained for 30 mins.

Some patients will feel a difference on the same day, others will take time.  As other acupuncture treatments it takes time and for the first course 6 sessions are required, any less would not be fair to the treatment.

Here is a testimonial from the patient you see above:

“An Amazing treatment!  My complexion and skin look like they did 10 years ago.  My face looks lifted and tighter.  My complexion looks alive and glowing.  Fine lines are less obvious and my whole face looks brighter. It’s a slow burner and has taken 6 sessions to really see the difference.  However, by the end of session 4 I really started to notice an improvement in the texture of my skin and a definite lifting of the face. First time in ages I can just get up and go.  Dab of mascara and I’m ready to face the world.  I recommend this treatment and I will certainly be embarking on a maintenance course of treatment.Sara provided an exceptional service and I really looked forward to my sessions.  The acupuncture was comfortable and I also benefited from the relaxation of the sessions”
